Tonghua Normal University is set against the backdrop of the picturesque Changbai Mountain. The Changbai Mountain marks the genesis of bountiful vigour and vitality cascading down it’s slopes and has etched it’s unique history, charm and culture throughout the region. At the foot of the mountain is the birthplace of the”City of Grape Wine”,”Medical City”,”The Hometown of Ginseng”,”National Forest City”.

Tonghua Normal University was established in 1958 as a teacher training institution, an important base for scientific and cultural innovation in Changbai Mountain region, and for cultivating applied talents for social development in the southeast of Jilin Province. In 2007 and 2016, we achieved excellent results in the teaching evaluation of the State Ministry of Education, putting a feature in the cap for the University.

The university consists of 20 colleges with a spread of 48 undergraduate majors, covering disciplines including literature, science, law, engineering, medicine, education, management science, arts and history. There are 2 national featured majors, 5 provincial-level featured high-level majors, 10 provincial-level first-class majors, 3 provincial-level brand majors, 6 provincial- level featured majors, 6 provincial-level key disciplines, 2 provincial-level advantageous featured disciplines, and 1 emerging interdisciplinary discipline. The university is a provincial university with complete disciplines, strong strength and high teaching level. We have 967 staffs that consist of  771 full-time teaching staff and an enrolment of more than 12,000 full-time students hailing from 28 provinces across China.

As an education pearl in the southeastern of Jilin Province, internationalization is at the forefront of Tonghua Normal University. Tonghua Normal university adheres to the open education in school-running and internationalization development road. In order to meet the trend of internationalization of higher education, the International Exchange and Cooperation Office was specially set up in 2012 to create favorable conditions for cultivating international talents with international vision, a good knowledge of international rules, who can participate in international affairs and international competition, we has established mutual benefiting academic partnerships with more than 61 universities and institutions domestic and abroad, and has carried out exchange students, 2+2, 3+1, short-term exchange, paid internships and other forms for undergraduate training projects. Up to now, 278 students have been overseas for exchange and study. The university has accumulatively recruited more than 100 international students, most of which are from “One Belt And One Road” countries. About 30 students went to the United States, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Laos, Philippines, Malaysia, Mongolia, Chile, Spain and other countries to be the Chinese teacher volunteers. A total of 175 teachers were sent to the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Australia, South Korea, Japan and HongKong and Taiwan for academic exchange, training and studies. One key international partnership is in the area of Visual Effects and Game Art with Wrexham Glyndwr University of the United Kingdom. We are also in collaboration with Yeungnam university in South Korea for Food Science and Engineering, and with Cheongju University in South Korea for Biological Science.

The school attaches importance to the education and teaching research of international students, and has accumulated rich teaching experience and formed a set of Chinese international education model with characteristics. The students have a high rate of passing the Chinese Proficiency Test（HSK） and can realize professional study without language barriers.
